Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thrash Mauricio Pochettino in next Manchester United manager poll

Man Utd have won eight from eight, Tottenham have gone out of two cup competitions and most Man United fans want Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the job permanently.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has trounced Mauricio Pochettino in the latest poll on the next Manchester United manager.

Caretaker coach Solskjaer amassed a whopping 84 per cent of the MEN’s poll, with just 13 per cent of fans plumping for Pochettino and three per cent opting for another candidate.

Exactly 8,460 votes were cast in the wake of United’s imperious FA Cup win at Arsenal and Tottenham’s elimination from the competition by Crystal Palace. Pochettino, who is understood to be interested in the United manager’s job, said after the 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park: “We are going to create a debate that to win a trophy is going to help the club. I don’t agree with that. That only builds your ego.

“In reality the most important thing is being consistently in the top four and playing in the Champions League.”

Pochettino is still trophyless four-and-a-half years into his Spurs reign and several United fans derided the Argentine’s weekend remarks. Solskjaer stressed on Monday that silverware was the priority for United, sixth in the Premier League and seven points adrift of third-placed Spurs.

“That’s not the dream though – to be top four,” Solskjaer stressed. “We’re Man United, you should always aim to win the league. We can’t do that this year but we’ve just got to look forward to that again because we have to get back to that.

“We’ve got the Champions League, we’ve got the FA Cup, we can’t just say top four and that’s it. We’ve got to look at, ‘Can we win something this year?’ And as I’ve said, I go into every single game as a Man United manager thinking we can win this game.

“If you win trophies that’s a fantastic day for everyone in the club, it’s just the best time of your life, that day when you win. Because you never know when the next one is going to come.
