It will Be a Gruesome Battle in Embakasi South but Who Will Emerge Victorious?

Who will win this looming battle of Supremacy between Raila’s ODM and Kalonzo’s Wiper?

Despite numerous warnings from ODM for Wiper not to field a Candidate in the upcoming Embakasi South By-elections, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka today presented a direct ticket to Julius Mawathe for the April 5 by-election.

While calling on voters to turn up in large numbers, Mr. Kalonzo noted that it will be a gruesome political contest against its coalition partner Orange Democratic Movement ODM that has fielded Mohamed Sumra.

The former Vice President further urged employers to allow their staff within the constituency participate in the by-election to help boost Wiper’s chances of winning.

The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court on December 21, 2018 nullified the election of Mawathe on grounds that he was not validly elected.

Last week, a section of Jubilee MPs also came out to endorse Mr. Mawathe.

The MPs; Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Charles Njagua (Starehe), George Theuri (Embakasi West) and Simon Mbugua (East African Legislative Assembly) said they picked Mawathe as their party, Jubilee, is not fielding a candidate.

Kuria posted on Facebook that he was throwing his weight behind Wiper candidate Musili Mawathe “in the spirit of the handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative”.

“…myself and like-minded leaders, in our individual capacities, have today resolved to support Mawathe to retain his seat,” Kuria said on Tuesday last week.
