Ten people were confirmed dead while several others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a grisly road accident at HZ area along the Eldoret-Eldama Ravine road last evening.
Seven people died on the spot while three others among them two assistant chiefs, died while being rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for treatment.
The matatu was heading to Ravine where the chiefs were returning to their homes after attending a meeting in Iten town.
The accident involved a 14-seater Nissan vehicle where witnesses say the matatu overturned after the driver lost control.
Police reports indicate the vehicle rolled on a steep section of the road that is in bad shape due to potholes.
Elsewhere, two people have died and 35 others injured in a road accident at Matarmat area near Londiani in Kericho County.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kipkelion OCPD William Kiambi said the incident happened after the bus lost control, veered off the road and rolled several times before landing in a ditch.
Kiambi further indicated that the bus was carrying 28 passengers when the accident happened.
