Southampton chasing in-form attacker as transfer deadline looms

Southampton looking to sign Championship ace Che Adams

Southampton are keen on a move for Birmingham hotshot Che Adams with just days left before the transfer deadline, as reported by The Mirror.

The Saints have reportedly had an £8m bid rejected by the Championship club already, but Garry Monk’s side are preparing themselves for another offer.

Adams has hit 14 goals in the second tier so far this season from 25 starts (as per Whoscored) and is in the best form of his career, so it is understandable that the 22-year-old is attracting admiring glances from the Premier League.

The report comes following news that fellow front man Charlie Austin looks set to leave the club this month as exclusively revealed by the Telegraph.

Southampton have already sold Manolo Gabbiadini to Sampdoria (as per the BBC), so they will need to get at least one striker in if they allow two departures in that area.

Adams is an exciting young centre-forward with an abundance of pace, who also possesses a frightening long shot and a calm finish to boot.

As aforementioned, he is currently in the form of his career over in the Midlands, and is a man in demand – according to The Mirror 12 Premier League clubs watched the Englishman score in Birmingham’s 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough a fortnight ago.

At just 22 years of age, he would be an ideal signing for Southampton in terms of longevity, as well as being able to make an immediate impact in an environment where he could thrive and fulfil his vast potential.

In this market, if they can secure his signature for anything under £15m, the Saints have got themselves a bargain.
