All has not been fine at Mount Kenya United this season; the team is rooted at the foot of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) table and have the unwanted stat as the only team yet to post a win this season. Their woes have been attributed to financial constraints but that all is set to end soon, going by club chair Bernard Mosomi’s sentiments.

Mosomi has revealed that the club has settled on two potential sponsors, currently remaining tight lipped on their identity though and he notes that in about three weeks the official unveiling will be called.

“We have been on the search for a sponsorship since breaking ranks with the supermarket chain (Nakumatt) but the search is coming to an end soon,” he assured.

The team had a name change from Nakumatt FC to Mount Kenya United FC ratified by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) at the start of the 2018/19 season before embarking on registering the same.

Mosomi says it has taken quite some time to get the new identity legalized, which he attributes to the lengthy wait for a new financier.

“The change of names took longer than we had anticipated but our documents are now in order and we have the all clear. We can engage sponsors with a clear path ahead of us now and like I said in about a couple of week or three we will unveil the new sponsors,” he added.

The team was minutes from a first win of the 2018/19 season on Wednesday 23 January, against Ulinzi Stars but a late concession and a missed penalty in the final minute saw the game at Kasarani end 1 – 1 and stretched the search to the 10th game of the campaign.

The team has managed four points from eight matches so far.
