Nyandarua governor, Francis Kimemia, has put on notice corrupt county officials under his administration.
Kimemia said corruption will not be tolerated and those found culpable must be prepared to carry their crosses.
He also warned lazy public officers who do not carry out their duties as expected.
“There is time for jokes and time for serious business. The time to crack the whip has come. Anyone who came to steal from the government should pack and go to wherever they came from,” Kimemia said.
The governor spoke on Thursday during the Nyandarua county Dialogue Forum held at Catholic Hall in Ol Kalou.
He pointed out the hardest hit department in terms of corruption, was education.
Kimemia said of major concern was the bursary money meant to benefit the poor and needy children in the county.
In December last year, Sh60million was issued for 9,601 students. Kimemia said some of this money ended in the wrong pockets.
He directed the Education executive, Faith Mbugua, to avail a list of all the bursary beneficiaries last year.
“The list will be taken to the grassroots for the people to verify,” Kimemia said.
The county boss said school boards’ chairmen will be called upon to confirm if the money meant to benefit needy cases in their schools met the desired purpose.
Parents whose children were target beneficiaries will also be required to produce receipts issued by the school.
This, he said, will confirm if the money was indeed absorbed in the school system.
Kimemia said failure to issue receipts to parents is a confirmation the money was embezzled.
“I know this is happening because, we too, have our intelligence,” he said.
Kimemia said officials in some departments are demanding bribes to award tenders to contractors. He advised the residents not to give bribes.
He also warned some officials are issuing fake licenses to unsuspecting traders.
To deal with these vices, the governor said he will soon be reorganising his government.
