Fresh Elections? ODM Expels controversial Aisha Jumwa and Suleiman Dori

ODM Party.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori have been dealt a major blow by the ODM Party, after the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) upheld a decision by the Disciplinary Committee to expel the two rebels from the party.

This is despite the two MP’s having publicly asked for forgiveness from their party. Jumwa wanted to be forgiven in the spirit of handshake. She said it would be unfair to punish her considering the unity between the government and opposition leadership.

“Ni kitu gani ambacho hakiwezi kusamehewa in the spirit of the handshake?” She said after appearing before the committee to show cause-why they should not be expelled.

But in a surprise decision, NEC has endorsed the decision to expel them from the Party.

“NEC has endorsed recommendation by the Disciplinary Committee to expel Hon. Aisha Jumwa and Hon. Suleiman Dori from the party. National Governing Council of the party to be convened to ratify the recommendation.” Read a statement posted on social media.

NEC also directed that the two be de-whippped from the lucrative parliamentary committees with immediate effect.

In a meeting held on Tuesday, December 4, the party’s disciplinary committee recommended expulsion of the two Ruto’s allies for acting in contrary to the party constitution. They have also been on radar for disciplinary action following comments in public forums that the ODM leader had betrayed the coastal people and that the region should join Ruto’s camp to realise some development.

It remains to be seen whether the speaker will order for fresh elections in their constituencies.
