The pain of a family looking for a loved one for months has come to an end after they found him dead.
The administration police constable is said to have disappeared two months ago.
According to family members, they identified the body of Vincent Kemboi Kimeto 24, at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue.
MTRH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Wilson Aruasa confirmed to the Standard yesterday that the body of the vibrant rugby player is at their morgue awaiting collection by the family.
“It is true that the body of the late Kimetto is at our morgue. We are waiting for family members to come and process the release. From our records, he was involved in a road accident at Sugunanga along Eldoret-Nakuru highway and he died on the spot,” said Aruasa.
The deceased who was based in Utawala in Nairobi was reported missing on November 25 last year.
For two months, the family were not aware that their son was lying in the morgue.
“We are still coming to terms of the death of our kin. Sadly, he did not inform anyone that he will be travelling to Eldoret where we have other relatives on that fateful day. We knew that he was in Nairobi until we were informed by his colleagues that he had disappeared,” said Kimetto Maritim the eldest brother to the deceased who spoke on phone.
According to Mr Maritim, attempts to get clear information on the deceased’s whereabouts proved futile and they were forced to turn to social media for help.
“We were only informed that he had sought permission from his bosses to go to hospital after sustaining some injuries on his hand brought about by his rugby training but nobody knew about his whereabouts. This made us to also start asking around in a bid to locate him but it proved futile,” he said.
He added: “We visited Nairobi and Nakuru in an attempt to trace his steps but it was in vain. The news of his discovery was made to us on Tuesday that his body had been discovered at MTRH morgue,”
According to the brother, the owner of the ill-fated vehicle stumbled upon the deceased’s wallet when he went to the police station to claim the mangled wreck of the accident car.
“The owner found a wallet under the seat and presented it to the police. Details on a National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) card found in the wallet led to the identification of our brother as the photo and details showed that he was a police officer,” said Maritim.
The family is currently engaged in talks on burial plans even as they come to terms of his untimely death of their last born son.
