Atletico Madrid Boss Diego Simeone Hints At Alvaro Morata Deal

The misfiring Morata is keen to end his stay nightmare stay at Stamford Bridge, which began with so much promise.

Atletico are understood to be interested in offering the former Real Madrid hitman a way out of Chelsea, who are on the verge of signing Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus.

Simeone was quizzed about the club’s pursuit of Morata on Tuesday evening and refused to rule it out.

“The only thing I’m thinking about is the upcoming match against Levante,” Simeone told reporters.

“I don’t speak about players that aren’t with us, only those that are.

“I can’t confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do.

“Some players want more minutes, some could be sold by the club, some could arrive. We need to wait until January 31.”

Earlier this month, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri revealed he’d be willing to let Morata leave west London as long as the club could find a suitable replacement for the £60million striker.

The Italian said: “If Morata goes to another club we need a replacement.

“At the moment Morata is here, so he has to think only about playing. In this moment in Europe, there are 300 players involved in the market.

“They only need to think about the next match otherwise it’s impossible to play.”

Morata, 26, joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Real Madrid for a fee of £60million.

The Spaniard started his Chelsea career with a bang, scoring ten goals in his first 16 matches for the club.

However, he soon began to struggle in front of goal, finding the back of the net five more times last season and scoring nine times in 24 appearances this campaign.

Chelsea are on the verge of bringing in Higuain to replace Morata.

The Blues are understood to be close to agreeing a sixth-month loan deal for the Argentina international, which they could extend in the summer.

Higuain was asked about the proposed move after AC Milan’s Suppercoppa Italiana match with Juventus but kept his cards close to his chest.

“Were you all waiting for me?” he asked reporters.

“If you want to create mess [regarding the Chelsea transfer], I’m not the right person for you in this sense.”
