Woodward Visit Puts Solskjaer In ‘Pole Position’ For Permanent Job

The clamour for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the Manchester United job permanently is growing within the boardroom, according to reports.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December after the Portuguese boss lost the dressing room during a poor run of results and performances.

The Norweigan has overseen a transformation in results as he won his first six matches to catapult United back into the Champions League reckoning.

The Red Devils are now six points off fourth-placed Chelsea and level on points with Arsenal, who occupy fifth spot.

And The Sun claims that Solskjaer has now moved into ‘pole position’ to take over as the permanent successor to Mourinho, after executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward visited him in the dressing room after their 1-0 victory over Tottenham.

He is understood to have congratulated Solskjaer ‘on the job he is doing’ with support for him to be the new permanent boss ‘growing’ inside the Old Trafford boardroom.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was thought to be their number one target but Solskjaer’s start to life at United has ‘hugely impressed’ the hierarchy.

The report points to the tactical work Solskjaer did with the United players on their warm-weather trip to Dubai as something that ‘particularly impressed’ the club’s board.

An ‘official decision’ on the next manager could even be brought forward if Solskjaer continues to get the best out of his United squad.

The Sun adds that the difficulty over Pochettino’s release from Spurs coupled with the players’ positive reaction to Solskjaer will give the former striker a great chance of getting the job.
