Paul Pogba Tipped To Inspire Manchester United’s Premier League Rise

Paul Pogba can be the man to inspire Manchester United according to Jermaine Jenas and Wolves midfielder Conor Coady.

Pogba, 25, has been in fine form under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has three assists and four goals in four Premier League matches. It represents a stark contrast to the form he produced under Jose Mourinho earlier in the season and, as such it has led to question over the player’s attitude.

Speaking on The Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5 Live, both Coady and Jenas debated whether Pogba was a ‘truck or a trailer’, with the Wolves midfielder believing Pogba does have the ability to drive Man Utd forward.

“I think everybody knows he can be a truck,” Coady said. “I know we’re talking about trucks and trailers.

I think everybody knows he can be a leader. You’ve seen it for France, he’s one of the best midfielders in the world. He should be dragging that team. He could be dragging that team. He’s a phenomenal football player, he’s got everything, everything a football player wants.

Jenas was less convinced, however, and expressed concern at the way Pogba acted when Man Utd were struggling under Mourinho.

“The only thing that worries me is when things weren’t great at Manchester United he was quite happy to be a trailer. They’re not the characteristics of a leader are they. I think at the minute his problem is he’s more of the kind of sing-when-you’re-winning type – ‘because everything is great now, everyone is happy, I’m going to go and score goals, I’m going to run around, I’m going to make things happen’.

“I’ve been there. I know what happens when you’re not happy with your manager and what he’s asking you to do.

“I still think he should be the catalyst in those moments. He should have been the one almost going to Jose and going, ‘Listen, even if me and you aren’t getting on this football is paramount to everything. It’s more important than me and you so we need to figure this out’ but it didn’t go down that road and it’s certainly worrying in terms of whether he’s a truck or a trailer.”
