Manchester United coach decides who will start between Lukaku and Rashford

Manchester United’s interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly told Marcus Rashford that he plans to start him ahead of Romelu Lukaku henceforth. according to reports. There have been calls from fans and pundits to utilise Rashford in a more central role after the 21-year-old has been playing more of a wide role over the last couple of seasons.

But since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in early December, a number of players have seen their performance levels improve dramatically, with the club winning five matches in a row in all competitions as a result. Rashford and Lukaku have both rediscovered their goalscoring touch in that period of resurgence, with both players scoring three goals under the new management team.

But with Solskjaer reportedly making it clear during United’s warm weather trip to Dubai that he would be going with Rashford from now on, the news is said to have come as a blow to Lukaku who regarded himself as the club’s star striker. The Belgian international was brought in from Premier League rival Everton last season for £75 million.

Lukaku made only his first start under Solskjaer against Reading in the FA Cup, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win, but is expected to be back on the bench for the Red Devils’ trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Rashford is ‘determined’ to make the most of his chance after Mourinho used him mainly as a winger during his spell in charge.
