Jurgen Klopp blames Liverpool’s FA Cup exit on the wind

From the length of grass to the accuracy of goal-line technology, a number of excuses have been made for Liverpool’s defeats of late, but Jurgen Klopp’s latest claim after defeat to Wolves is one of the most bizarre to date.

Raul Jimenez and a screamer from Ruben Nevez gave Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a historic and deserved win at Molineux on Monday night.

It’s fair to say that Liverpool fielded an under-strength side against their fellow Premier League outfit, but in his post match comments, Jurgen Klopp gave an unusual factor behind defeat.

No, seriously.

Klopp believes the actual wind played a part in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss in the FA Cup third round.

“We had a few players ill after City game. We had to make late changes so it doesn’t help. The wind didn’t help, players struggled to control ball.” he said.

It’s also fair to say that people picked up on his comments and in the matter of minutes, his quotes went viral on social media.

One Twitter user said: “I can totally understand his point of view. The grass was so long for them as well. Don’t forget they also had to play under floodlights and it obviously affected the players vision. Feel for them.”

While another observed that clearly the “wind only blows when Liverpool are in possession.”
