Mathare United is just fine with a point against Gor Mahia after successfully managing to frustrate the largest community club at the MISC Kasarani  on Sunday 6th January 2019 and securing a one-all draw.

Speaking after the match, head coach Francis Kimanzi insisted that the club was well prepared for K’ogallo and the plan to contain them worked perfectly allowing them to walk away with a point that keeps them at the top of the helm.

“The team deserves an applause since they played three matches in a few days [less than 10 days] all heavy and combining other engagements with families because of the holidays. It is impossible to rotate the squad which makes it a brilliant performance. We were almost there today so we play same way in every game and have fun which we can only do when we play in an offensive manner,” he stated.

“We have players who enjoy it and love attacking space and especially great when you play former champions and you see such character. It isn’t a fair result because I believe I had my own chances but for the balance and motivation of all teams a point would be okay for us,” he added.

Oliech, making his debut for the defending league champions after penning a two year deal earlier in the week, came on for Nicholas Kipkirui as both sides settled for a share of the spoils.

Jacques Tuyisenge gave Gor the lead in the 34th minute via a penalty before Mathare replicated the same with a spot kick of their own in the second half that was converted by Kevin Kimani.
