From Malala Nudes Parade to Trafficking Humans, Why Rashid Echesa Thrives in Controversies

Rashid Echesa, a man that is now synonymous among many Kenyans for all the bad reasons continues to look for trouble or is it trouble that keep looking for him? Well, Echesa has made headlines in the past for trading in murky waters. From abusing Raila Odinga, to masterminding Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s fake nudes, Echesa seems to be a man hell bent on causing trouble.

His appointment as Sports Cabinet Secretary by President Kenyatta led to a lot of opposition among a section of Kenyans and Politicians who questioned his experience and education standards with many saying that the former boxer was not the ideal man to hold the Sports docket.

Echesa’s tenure as Sports CS has not been a rosy one with the Ministry at times embroiled in turmoil due to mismanagement by officials in the ministry led by Echesa.

Sports federations in the country accused the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage of dragging on its feet and failing to respond to their budgetary requests.

Away from the troubles at the Ministry of Sports,Last year, Echesa also allegedly paid three journalists to photoshop Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s image to portray him in a compromising situation with a non-existent woman.

The strategy was to flood the Internet with the pornographic pictures in a bid to tarnish Malala’s reputation, especially in Kakamega, where supremacy battles between the two have played out openly.

From the Nudes now comes the human trafficking claims with Echesa now being accused of illegally aiding the entry of eight Pakistani women into the Country.

According to Lawyer Ondieki, the eight cultural dancers from Pakistan were allowed to enter into the country by Mr Echesa to promote trans-national cultures.

The Eight women were arrested at a social club in Parklands, and arraigned in court on charges of being in the country illegally.

The Women have since been deported from the Country.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior Saturday evening said the women had been deported for violating regulation 26 (3) of of Kenya Citizenship and Migration regulations, by engaging in activities outside of what was specified in their entry documents.

“Some have already left and last batch will leave at midnight.

“Investigations are still going on to establish the circumstances in which the women came into Kenya ostensibly to promote transnational culture but ended up in suspicious places,” Interior spokeswoman Wangui Muchiri said.

CS Rashid Echesa should now be a worried man especially with the looming Cabinet reshuffles as many Kenyans have called on him to resign or face the sack.
