Blessing in disguise? School girl caught on camera drunk gets goodies

Several organisations have offered to help the high school girl captured on camera while intoxicated as schools reopened for the first term.

The Form Two student in an interview at her home in Karatina, Nyeri County, said her friend bought the alcohol and urged her to drink; she said it was her first time. By Friday, the girl had not reported to school.

“My best friend was in the company of a boy whom she introduced as a friend from another school. They both went into a supermarket and came with a bottle of something that looked like a soda.

“We went to a washroom at a certain hotel where we partook the drink, and after a few sips I started feeling dizzy, from there I don’t know what happened,” she recalled.

National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) director Vincent Mwasia Mutua, alias Chipukeezy, promised to help the girl.

Mr Mutua said the school girl should be guided instead of being ridiculed.

“The girl deserves mentorship and inspiration, not condemnation. That is why I hold office. Some things are about humanity, not money,” he said.

Also, Big Sisters Foundation founded by Nyeri MCA Julia Mukami visited the school on Friday and offered to counsel the girl.

“She is a very young girl and she needs to guided. We will offer her professional counselling as a way to help her deal with the issues she could be going through,” she said.
