NTSA clarifies on claims of Phasing out 14 seater Matatus

The National Transport and Safety Authority has today issued a statement to clarify on the  claims that they are phasing out 14 seater Matatu.

NTSA statement came after reports appearing in a section of the media purporting that the Authority is no longer renewing licenses for all 14 Seater Public Service Vehicles (Matatus).

They however clarifies that  these claims are not true and are misleading to the public.

In the statement, NTSA confirmed that the Authority continues to renew Road Service License (RSL), for all 14 seater PSV’s that do not pass through Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi City.

“We are indeed facilitating and encouraging the 14 Seater PSV operators, especially those who have access to CBD to get alternative Routes.” reads statement in part

At the same time, NTSA stated that they are in full compliance with Court Order on Petition No. 440 issued on 19th December 2018.

Earlier reports had thrown into confusion thousands of investors who operate on various routes across the country as they thought that the phasing out is for all 14 seater matatu which is not the case as  revealed in the statement.
