Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will join Italian giants Juventus when his current contract at the Emirates expires.

A host of clubs across Europe have been in the race to land the player but a tweet from an Italian journalist today suggests a deal has been done and the Welshman is heading for Turin.

The 28-year-old was attracted to Italy by the prospect of a five-year contract worth nearly £6million a season (£5.87m) a season in a bid to see off interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ramsey made it clear that he wouldn’t be staying at Arsenal after he stalled on a new contract offer from the Gunners leaving him free to negotiate with an overseas club and sign a pre-contract agreement.

Juventus have assumed pole position in the race for the player but are unlikely to be able to get him in black and white stripes until next season with Arsenal reluctant to allow him to leave.

Signed from Cardiff 11 years ago, Ramsey is the club’s longest serving player. He has won three FA Cups at Arsenal, and also scored the winning goals in the 2014 and 2017 finals against Hull and Chelsea respectively.

Last year it seemed likely that Ramsey would join Bayern Munich and in the past he’s been linked with Roma. But the prospect of linking up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus has proved too good an offer to refuse and his arrival will give an already potent midfield unit even more options.
