Solskjaer revealed the message he will drill into Manchester United players

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed what advice he gave to Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford before taking the job as caretaker manager, and detailed his plans to improve the young players at the club.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho until the end of the season on December 19, and has since won his first three games in charge.

Rashford has started each game under the new management, scoring twice and assisting once in United’s new-look attacking formation.

And Solskjaer says he gave Rashford some key advice when he bumped into the striker after United’s win over Young Boys in the Champions League in November.

Rashford was guilty of missing a number of chances in that game, which United won 1-0 thanks to a late Marouane Fellaini goal, and Solskjaer says he told the 21-year-old he needed to relax.

Speaking to Stadium Astro before United’s win over Bournemouth, a game in which Rashford scored and assisted, Solskjaer recalled a chance meeting with his No.10 at Old Trafford five weeks ago.

He said: “I went to see the Young Boys game just a month ago and I met him and Jesse [Lingard] in the corridor just as I was leaving the game.

“He had a few chances in that game and [I said] ‘don’t worry son, just relax a little bit.'”

After saying Rashford admitted he was ‘snatching at things’, Solskjaer continued: “When you’re young you want to rush finishes off. It will be great to work with such a potential top, top striker, just on his calmness in front of goal.“Yes, of course you’re excited by working with all this talent but then going into detail is what I can do best. That was my ‘X factor’, scoring goals. So if I can help and guide him a little bit then great.”

When asked how Solskjaer planned to help players like Rashford, he said: “It’s all in the head. You know what to do, that’s key in everything and then be able to do it.

“So videos of good finishes, bad finishes, discuss things and then go out and practice and be as good as you can possibly get. There’s always time for another practice session.”And Solskjaer revealed the message he will drill into his United players during his time at the club.”Never, ever, ever forget where you are and what badge you’re wearing when you’re playing,” he explained.

“We do have a different history at this club, we do have a different tradition. We’ve had the best manager in the world and Sir Matt before that. We have a history, a way of behaving and a way of playing.”
