Most parents right now are under pressure in preparation for the opening of schools. Most of them are busy doing shopping to avoid last minute rush. But will the school opening be any time soon with the looming strike?
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in Nandi County has urged parents to stay with their children at home saying schools will not reopen for the first term on Thursday.
The call comes amid high tension of the looming strike paralysing learning in public schools as the national leadership vows to go on with the January strike.
According to Nandi South KNUT Secretary General Stephen Misoi, about 8000 teaches in Nandi County will not report to work until the government addresses various issues affecting teachers.
Speaking after attending a church service at St. Pauls Catholic church in Kobujoi, Misoi accused the ministry of undermining teachers over promotions, mass transfers, poor terms of service among other grievances raised by the union.
Even as the union remains firm on the looming strike, Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Laikipia branch Executive Secretary Ndungu Wangenye has said their members will not participate in the strike.
Wangenye has asked their members to report to their respecting stations.
On his part, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei urged the education ministry to have a round table negotiations with teachers so as to avert further learning crisis in the country.
