Police Inspector General Joseph Boinnet has today urged drivers and boda boda riders to be  cautious and obey the safety rules as expected.

He also noted that the National Police Service have set up plans to  beef up security to ensure that general safety and that of the roads is maintained.

Boinnet also thanked Kenyans for cooperating with the National Police Service personnel during the December 2018 holidays which unlike in the past, this year’s festivities have been marked by fewer incidences of general crime as well as accidents on our highways.

Even as Kenya prepares for the celebrations to usher in the new year 2019, the National Police service has called upon their  fellow compatriots as well as visitors to exercise moderation as they enjoy themselves.

He also insisted that  no one should drink and drive as they risk endangering their own lives as well as those of other innocent road users.

The Inspector General also called upon organizers of public events to cooperate with the police as they are committed to offer security to venues which will be hosting public events.

“The NPS will therefore enhance our coverage at all houses of worship as well as other venues expected to host the public in welcoming the new year 2019. We call on organisers of such functions to cooperate with the Police in providing safety and security to their patrons.

We shall also deploy our officers to man our public roads to enforce traffic laws and other regulations. We also wish to advice Motorists to be courteous to other road users and always ensure that their vehicles are in a roadworthy condition.” he said in a thread of tweets

An equal warning was sent to Boda boda operators who are required to stick to the law and wear protective gear at all times.

Pedestrians walking on public roads have also been asked to be cautious and cross only when its clear and safe to do so.

The Inspector General, on behalf of the National Police Service also  wished  all Kenyans a very blessed and prosperous 2019.
