Police launch manhunt for deadly gang that kidnapped and killed driver

Image result for offloading sugarPolice have launched a manhunt for a gang that hijacked and killed a lorry driver in Kisumu county.

However ,the Police arrested a man and his wife who were found in possession of 330 bags of sugar stolen from a lorry that was hijacked in Nyakach, Kisumu County.

The consignment was being transported from Sony Sugar Company to Oyugis before the vehicle was intercepted by a gang of armed robbers.

Sources told Citizen Digital the the suspected robbers killed the driver before offloading the sugar to another vehicle.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested the man and his wife at Mamboleo market where the stolen sugar was found in their store.

The officers also arrested loaders who were found offloading the sugar into the store and a driver of the lorry that was used to ferry the stolen sugar.

 

The incident comes two a month after two robbery suspects were gunned down hours after they hijacked a Nakuru-bound lorry .

Gilgil Officer Commanding Police Division Emmanuel Opuru said the two were part of a six-man gang found offloading the stolen cargo when police pounced on them.

He said the lorry driver had stopped at Kikopey area to answer a call of nature when three men, armed with an AK 47 assault rifle, accosted him at around midnight.

“They kidnapped the driver, tied him up, drove with him along the highway before dumping him in a thicket,” said Mr Opuru.

The Gilgil police boss told the Nation that the suspects later picked up three others along the way, before driving towards Nakuru.

“The driver managed to free himself and report the matter at the Gilgil police station with officers on duty giving a chase,” added Mr Opuru.

Police caught up with the suspects at Free Area in Nakuru as they transferred the stolen goods into a warehouse.
