According to a report in The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking to offload Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama during the January transfer window, and if he is looking for a replacement then Huddersfield Town midfielder Philip Billing may have put himself in the frame following his latest display.

Despite the emergence of Oliver Skipp in recent weeks, the potential departures of Dembele and Wanyama next month would surely see the north London outfit look to bring in another body in that area of the pitch, as they look to keep pace in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

The Terriers travelled to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Boxing Day looking to put an end to a run of five successive top-flight defeats, but it was never going to be an easy task in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first home match in charge of the Red Devils, who were rejuvenated in their 5-1 win away against Cardiff City previously.

While David Wagner’s men may have fallen to a 3-1 defeat at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, the tall Denmark U21 international produced an impressive display in the middle of the park for the visitors.

The tall 22-year-old was up against the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard on Tuesday, which ensured that he was likely to be in for a difficult afternoon with the former in particular looking to be a new player following the departure of Jose Mourinho.

However, Billing stood up to the task and as well as making five tackles, five interceptions and two tackles from a defensive point of view, as per WhoScored, he also made one key pass, had two shots and was successful with all seven of the long balls he produced.

Also completing one dribble, it is clear to see the ability and the potential that the Dane has in his locker, and his height means that he can hold his own in the middle of the park and is capable of winning his fair share of aerial duels.

It may seem a little unambitious for Tottenham to be targeting a player like Billing from a side struggling in the Premier League, but Pochettino has turned players similar to the 22-year-old into stars before and there is no doubt that he could do the same with the midfielder if he brought him to north London.
