It was still Christmas for alcohol lovers in Kagio town, Kirinyaga County who had a field day after a truck ferrying alcoholic drinks overturned less than a kilometre to its destination.
The accident that occurred at 4 pm on Wednesday triggered a vicious scramble and those who were strong enough managed to sample the different brands from the loot.
It was an equal fight between men and women in the scramble and winners sang and danced in celebration.
The highly regarded drink in parts of Central Kenya was made free for all,old and young, male and female literally and comically said the incident was similar to manna falling from heaven since and just a good coincidence.
“Boxing Day manna. Free Boxing Day gift for Kagio residents. Hapa hata watoto wanabox (even children are stuffing the drinks in boxes),” said one of the residents at the accident scene.
Kenyans who viewed videos of the scramble and popping of beers on social media did not hide their envy saying they wished they could be near the incident to benefit from free liquor.Others however wondered what would be the residents reaction if the truck would have been transporting bibles.
Police who arrived moments later found empty beer crates and beer bottles on the road.
The driver and his assistant escaped unhurt.
