Barcelona to beat Man City in race for star

FC Barcelona have won the race for a Dutch starlet Frenkie De Jong following his emergence in the Dutch Eredivisie and UEFA Champions League this season, reports indicate.

Barcelona have seemingly beaten a number of Europe’s top clubs to signature of De Jong, with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich defeated.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish giants are leading the charge after meeting the player’s wage demands.

Furthermore, it’s said that Barca are De Jong’s first choice as he a while back hinted at a desire to play in Spain as his dream is now close to being realised.

With Ajax reluctant to sell him midway through the campaign while still contesting in the Eredivisie and Champions League , De Jong’s agent recently outlined a decision over his client’s future would be made ‘in the coming weeks’.

This season across all competitions, has seen De Jong come up with 27 appearances for the Dutch heavyweights, finding the net three times with one assist.

The highly-rated midfielder is seen as the next big star to come out of Dutch football, with comparisons to the likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf and Wesley Sneijder already in place.
