Uhuru joins faithful in Mombasa for Christmas

President Uhuru Kenyatta joined Christian faithful for the Nativity of the Lord mass at Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa County.

During the mass, the Head of State passed a message of forgiveness and compassion, urging Kenyans to love one another and spread the Christmas spirit by sharing with the less fortunate.

The President, who was flanked by his wife Margaret Kenyatta, left the mass which was conducted by Bishop Martin Kivuva a few minutes shy of 1am.

In Busia, hundreds of residents thronged churches to celebrate the birth of Christ as others preferred to usher in Christmas at entertainment joints.

In Rome, Pope Francis presided over the Holy Mass of the Christmas Vigil at St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Pope also called on people in developed countries to live a simpler and less materialistic life.

He also condemned the huge divide between the world’s rich and poor, saying Jesus’s birth in poverty in a stable should make everyone reflect on the meaning of life.

It is the 82-year-old’s sixth celebration of the solemn feast of the Birth of the Lord as head of the Roman Catholic Church.
