Manchester United players send message to fans on Christmas Day

United may be training on Christmas Day – but that has not stopped the players getting into the festive spirit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will put his side through their paces before United’s Boxing Day clash against Huddersfield but his squad were given a day off on Christmas Eve to relax with their families.
A week ago, Solskjaer had been due to spend the holidays with his family back in Norway but he has since flown them over following a remarkable week at United.

Diogo Dalot has also had some familiar faces drop by as he spends his first Christmas in Manchester and his sister, Mariana, posed with him for a photo in front of the tree.

The 19-year-old gave fans the chance to win a mysterious gift with his Christmas message.

‘Merry Christmas everyone! I Hope everybody has a good time with their families over this festive period! Like this pic with a chance of winning a Christmas gift from myself,’ he posted.

It is also a first Christmas in Manchester for Fred and his fiancée, Monique Salum, who is expecting. Captioning a photo of the pair, Fred wrote: ‘Our family wishes everyone a Happy Christmas’.

Fred‘s compatriot, Andreas Pereira, had a similar message as he crouched in front of the tree with his three dogs while team-mate Marcos Rojo had a barbecue with family and friends.

Each United player had their own take on the theme: Jesse Lingard broke out his elf costume, Victor Lindelof gave himself a cartoon Santa beard while Matteo Darmian recorded a video of a Santa figure riding a zip wire to welcome Christmas.

The festive season also gives the players a chance to catch up with old friends and Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah spent some time together on Christmas Eve.

It was not just current players who got involved on social media, with David Beckham capturing a photo of the Holy Trinity Statue in front of a Christmas tree with ‘Once a Red’ – which certainly went down well with United fans.

Another famous No.7, Cristiano Ronaldo, posted a family portrait with his partner and four kids in Santa hats. ‘Merry Christmas!’ it read. Eric Cantona was also feeling festive as he posed in front of his fireplace with a Santa hat on.

Although Anderson was feeling a little camera shy, he put out the most comprehensive Christmas message of United players past and present.

‘Wanting to wish all my family, friends and fans a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,’ he wrote.

‘Hope everyone has a special day! I am filled with gratitude for everything that 2018 has brought… looking forward to bringing in the New Year and celebrating.’
