Sing’ore Girls High School Board of Management (BOM) in Elgeyo Marakwet County has protested the school’s outcome in 2018 KCSE exams.

When Education CS Amina Mohamed released the results on Friday, December 21, the school emerged with a mean score of 4.8.

In 2017, the school emerged top nationally with a score of 9.690, a development that throttled it to countrywide fame. But the BOM said the 2018 results did not reflect the academic abilities of its 350 Form Four candidates.

The board observed that there was no way a school with a consistent history in posting impressive performance could sink with a whooping 4.89 points.

It also claimed there was over-deployment of police officers during the examination period, a factor the BOM alleged might have caused their students not to perform as expected.

On Sunday, December 23, the board held a crisis meeting and agreed on a raft of measures to tackle the challenge.

All the 2018 candidates were summoned to the school together with their parents and guardians for counseling. This, according to the BOM, would help them accept the reality but also provide a forum to chat a way forward.

Board chairman John Chemweno, said the school would also liaise with the Ministry of Education with a view to give the candidates a chance to resit the examination in 2019.

Chemweno also hinted at a possible leadership change in the administration of the school. “I don’t want to believe the results.

There is no way students with consistent academic  results from Form One to Four Four can post such results in KCSE,” said Mwangi Muia, the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman.
