why school’s December holiday might be extended to February

Schools across the country are currently on their long Holiday break, which comes with festivities. They are expected back to school after celebrating Christmas and a new year. Learning sessions are expected to commence shortly after they usher in 2019, but do you think this will happen?

The holiday might be extended longer, since a teachers union seem not to be in good terms with the government. Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) on Wednesday announced a nation wide teacher’s strike slated to begin on January 2.

Speaking over the issue, KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion revealed that the union was forced to declare the strike after Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) violated labour rights.

“We can’t promise you that the new year will start well… parents should adjust their budgets very well because the Christmas will be extended into the new year,” stated Sossion.

Mr Sossion, in a televised press conference, accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of “de-professionalising the teaching profession”.
