All the Poor Records that Mourinho has Left at Manchester United

Finally Jose Mourinho has left Manchester United. The club confirmed through its Twitter handle that Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.  A temporary caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season while the club searches for his successor.

Mourinho has lost his job in aftermath of a 3-1 thrashing by Liverpool over the weekend. The defeat meant that the club has not beaten any of the top six sides this season and has also suffered embarrassing defeats against Brighton Albion and West Ham.

But just how poor was Mourinho’s record during his two and half year reign? The following are some of the poor records he has broken:

  1. Manchester United have picked up 26 points after their first 17 league games this season under Jose Mourinho; their worst points haul in the top-flight at this stage since 1990-91 (also 26 points).
  2. Manchester United averaged 1.62 goals per game in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho, less than they did under David Moyes (1.65).
  3. Manchester City (234) have scored 83 goals more than Manchester United (151) in the Premier League (both in 93 games) since the appointments of Jose Mourinho as United boss & Pep Guardiola as City manager.
  4. Manchester United won 176 Premier League points since the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager; fewer than Manchester City (222), Tottenham Hotspur (202), Chelsea (200) and Liverpool (196)
