Barely 24 hours before he met his sudden death, Governor Wahome Gakuru spent time with his son who is a candidate for that year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

In November  2017 , police said the cause of the heart-wrenching accident that claimed the life of Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru was caused by a tyre burst amid heavy downpour.

The tyre burst caused the Mercedez Benz Dr Gakuru was travelling in to lose control, veer off the road and ram into the rail guard which speared through the vehicle, inflicting fatal injuries on the county boss and his aides.

The car had four occupants at the time of the accident; driver Samuel Kinyanjui Wanyaga, Personal Assistant Albert Kaguru, bodyguard Ahmed Abdi and the governor.Image result for wahome gakuru

Dr. Gakuru, who was heading to Nairobi for a talk show on Inooro TV, was accompanied by his personal Assistant, bodyguard and driver who were seriously injured.

They were all rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital for emergency treatment and are set to be transfered to Nairobi Hospital for further treatment.

In a letter addressed to the Nyeri Chief Magistrate, Mr Kinoti said the decision follows a directive from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordering that the matter be disposed as a way of public inquest.

But the late governor’s family through their spokesperson Waruru Ndegwa, questioned the prolonged delay by the police to conduct the inquest, adding that they believe the Mr Gakuru was assassinated.

“We suspect Wahome was assassinated and it was made to look like an accident. There could be individuals using the system to frustrate the case and the investigations

“If anybody participated in the death, that person should held to account. There are some grey areas and we suspect some cover-ups on how the investigation has gone,” said Mr Ndegwa.

Mr Gakuru died on November 7, 2018 after a road crash on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway in Makenji.
