Drunk driver on the spot after a suspected hit and run incident

A drunk driver is on the spot after he is claimed to have hit a salon car from behind at high speed knocking off the tyre and bumper, the driver tried getting away and ran over a speed bump, lost control and ran over ten steel barriers along jogoo road.

Although the details are scanty, the Kenyan traffic on a tweet tagged  the National Transport Safety Authority to take the report into consideration.

A couple days ago, the government declared their intention  to introduce daytime ‘alcoblow’ tests in efforts to curb accidents caused by drunk driving this festive season.

From the star reports, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet on Friday warned drivers saying those who drink alcohol and drive will face the law.

He said more traffic police officers will be deployed along the highways during the festivities. Thousands of Kenyans do travel to their rural homes for the celebrations, causing a traffic surge on the roads.

“The alcohol testing will go a long way in ensuring that the number of road fatalities is reduced during this festive season,” Boinnet said.

Even with this warning about the strict measures that will be put some rogue drivers are still violating the road safety regulations and putting lives at risk.

This incident is only one of the reported ones but they are probably more incidents.

Some Kenyans do not seem shaken by the law and this can be quite dangerous especially during this festive season.

What do you think the police should do extra to curb this menace?
