Sacrificing Lookman to replace Lukaku is a hit Everton may have to take

The Scottish Sun is reporting that Everton’s previously rumoured interest in Jean-Kevin Augustin is indeed solid. The report claims that Marco Silva wants a new striker at Goodison Park and has earmarked the exciting French talent as an option.

However, there are caveats. The report claims that his current club RB Leipzig want £38 million to consider selling the player. It also claims that price could be a lot lower if Everton throws Ademola Lookman into the deal.

England under-21 international Lookman spent the second half of last season on loan at the Bundesliga club and thrived. Leipzig were public in their attempt to sign him permanently in the summer. Perhaps too public, as stubborn Everton priced Lookman out of an exit.

However, Everton fans must ask if letting Lookman go to get Augustin could be worth it.

Everton have still failed to replace Romelu Lukaku after his 2017 summer exit to Manchester United.

Richarlison is a top player, but looking unlikely to be the 25-goal a season striker Everton crave. Cenk Tosun certainly doesn’t. In fact, the same report from the Scottish Sun suggests the Turkish international is up for sale.

Augustin has all the qualities to finally fill that void. Paying in attack with Richarlison, Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson and co supporting, he could be a genuine goal-machine at Goodison Park.

In an ideal world, Everton would have both Augustin and Lookman. But it if means finally replacing Lukaku, then Lookman may have to be sacrificed.
