There’s a famous scripture that goes something like, “A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.” However, this is not the case with one Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
Governor Kivutha Kibwana has been accepted and celebrated by the people of Makueni and the entire country for the efforts he has made in developing the county to what it is today. From the look of things, it’s not only fellow countrymen who have been wowed by Governor Kibwana’s work as his success has now gained recognition outside the Kenyan border.
The Makueni leader has today revealed that he hosted four Nordic ambassadors from Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, all of who are seeking to learn from his success in carrying out devolved county functions.

“I am honoured to host Nordic ambassadors of Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, who are in Makueni to learn about our devolution success stories,” said the Governor in a tweet.
The leaders engaged in deliberations that focused solely on the progressive approach of Makueni County.
Finland Ambassador to Kenya, Erik Lundberg lauded the Governor’s efforts noting that other leaders should follow suit as devolution is key for achieving the Big agenda.
This is not the first time that Governor Kibwana has received accolades for his style of leadership. Six months ago, the Makueni Governor hosted 46 of his counterparts for what they called a learning conference.
The leaders wanted to gain a better understanding of the Villagers People’s Forum, where residents meet regularly to discuss their issues, ideas and proposals that are then implemented at a county level.
The success of the program has drawn recognition from far and wide, including the World Bank.
Of the latest developments under the Governor’s belt is the recently unveiled mother and child facility located in Wote town adjacent to Makueni Level 5 Hospital in Makueni County. The Makueni Mother and Child hospital which is the brain child of Governor Kivutha Kibwana was last week officially opened by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
The facility which has an ultramodern newborn unit and houses 120 bed was officially is the brain child of Makueni Governor, Kivutha Kibwana who has proved to be the ‘King of Development’.
It is great to applaud the development in some of the counties in Kenya but on the flip side, is it that Kenyans are so used to mediocre leaders that when leaders actually do their job and serve the people as they are expected to, we celebrate and applaud them for their work? It’s quite fascinating that we actually view leaders who are working as exceptional.
