For a long time now, Kenyan athletes have complained of not being recognized or appreciated by the government. This is despite flying the Kenyan flag high at various international competitions across the world.

Kenyan athletes have brought great success, honour and pride to the nation but the government’s neglect to some of them has even seen others change nationals with many preferring to represents countries like Qatar and the United States.

The government seem to have realized the wrongs it has committed over a period of time and is now keen of giving the Kenyan athletes the recognition they deserve.

The government has today launched new currencies with the old coins and notes set to be done away with in accordance to the constitution.

While launching the new currencies today, President Kenyatta said that he was extremely proud of the milestone achieved so far.

“We shall also be unveiling a set of new generation coins which are compliant with our 2010 constitution. I am extremely pleased that today we can achieve another milestone,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I am informed that the new generation coins continues the tradition of depicting an aspect that best describes our country,” he added.

Of the Currencies launched today, the 200 shillings note has been dedicated to the Kenyan athletes with the note bearing portraits and images of Kenyan athletes.

Central bank of Kenya was last month, October 12th given the go ahead to print the new-look currency after the appeals court held that the De La Rue tender was above board.

The New Currency coins will begin circulation today, Kes 20 will now have an Elephant, Kes 10 a lion, Kes 5 a Rhino and the 1 bob a giraffe.

Which is the other way the government can celebrate Kenyans icons that have brought glory to the nation?
