Police extend War against graft to Kenyans doorsteps

The National Police Service has declared its efforts in cleaning up the system and rooting out corrupt officials. The police have moved to Kenyans doorsteps to team up in their efforts to end corruption.

Yesterday marked the Anti Corruption Day and the  National Police Service initiated a conversation with Kenyans to get opinions and ideas on how to slay the dragon.

The war against corruption was heightened after the declaration by President Uhuru Kenyatta who  made it among his legacy agenda plans.

Kenyans have shown frustration over the police system and they believe that rooting out corruption should start from within their system.

Corruption within the police service has sometimes been linked to low salaries  and therefore police are forced involve themselves in petty corrupt deals to survive.

But this has been termed as one of the lame excuses and trying to justify their acts. Kenyans do not think that even higher pay will limit them from taking part in corruption.

Kenyans urged the National Police service to digitize the process of paying fines as one of the move to curb corruption.

They have also been urged to educate Kenyans and inform the public of the fine payable for petty offences so that they may not be duped.

The police service noted that several cases of offenders being asked to pay ‘un affordable’ cash bails so as to induce them to bribe have been reported  by members of public.

They also added that others have reported to have paid un receipted monies which amounts to corruption.

Yesterday during the Anti Corruption campaigns, the police made it clear that their intention is to  lower the incidence of petty corruption.

Given the weaknesses of institutions in developing countries, mitigating leakages has long been a concern to economists and policymakers, and it is important  to know how to curb corruption in order to improve economic efficiency and outcomes.

How best can the National Police Service end petty corruption? What should they do extra in the war against graft?
