Ahmednasir: The entire Supreme Court will be run by foreigners in 10 years time

Have ever imagined of Kenya having a foreign Chief Justice (CJ) at some point? Do you even think this can happen? Well, One of the Kenya’s senior counsels has come out to warn about the possibilities of the situation in a ten years time.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has come out to explain on why he is fully supporting the move by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to hire a foreign prosecutor in the graft case involving Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.

DPP Haji hired Queen’s Counsel Khawar Qureshi on Wednesday to nail DCJ Mwilu.

According to Ahmednasir, Kenya will have a foreign Chief Justice and the entire Supreme Court run by foreigners because of Kenya’s corrupt practices, political biases and bad manners.

Through his official twitter account, his post read, “I support 100% the appointment of Khawar Qureshi QC by DPP Noordin. Take it from me in ten years time we will have a foreigner CJ & the entire Supreme Court run by foreigners because of our corrupt practices, political biases & bad manners.”

Lawyer Ahmednasir’s support of the DPP’s hiring came after the lawyers representing DCJ Mwilu opposed the appearance of Khawar Qureshi in the case. The Lawyers led by Siaya Senator senior counsel James Orengo and Nelson Havi had argued that Qureshi had no certification from Law Society of Kenya to practise Law in the Country.

Qureshi however defended his appearance in the case, citing that he had what it takes to nail DCJ Mwilu.

“I’m an international counsel who has acted on hundreds of challenges to decisions of UK government and for different states on large-scale fraud and corruption matters including Nigeria, Russia and some African states I can’t mention. Hopefully, I can bring that insight on these issues,” Qureshi told a local daily.

The DPP also filed a petition seeking Okong’o Omogeni and Orengo, who are both senators, barred from representing DCJ Mwilu in court citing conflict of interest.
