Imagine the thought of losing a loved one and the finding out that you buried the wrong body? Hold that thought. One family just came close to burying the body that did not belong to them.
There was drama at the Mpeketoni Hospital Mortuary in Lamu county after a family discovered that the body of their kin was missing from the facility.
It all started when the family of the late 92-year old Deasi Wanjira arrived at the morgue with a coffin ready to take their loved one home for burial when they were told that the body had been mistakenly collected by another family and ferried to Kinangop to be buried.
The family in utter disbelief, caused a scene at the mortuary as they projected their anger towards the morgue attendants demanding to be given Wanjira’s body. It took several hours before the hospital’s management managed to have the family members calm down.
The family of the late Wanjira only agreed to leave the mortuary and return home after the management convinced them that the other family was contacted and plans had been made had made plans to return the body. Later, the other family returned the body and collected that of their kin with the morgue attendants saying they had never witnessed such a situation like this unfold.
Don’t you find it absurd that they family did not check the inside of the coffin when they collected the body of their loved one?
