In Mombasa county, police have arrested a 30-year old man who allegedly stabbed his two daughters to death at Mshomoroni area in Kisauni Sub-county.
The man identified as James Maina, was this evening arrested at his home shortly after taking away the lives of the two girls aged six and four years. The man was found in the house where the bodies of the children were lying in a pool of blood where one of the girls had been stabbed on the neck while the other on the chest.
Although it is not yet established why the man committed the heinous act, the neighbours who raised alarm said that the man was drunk at the time the incident occurred. Mr. Maina was taken to Nyali Police Station as police continue to carry out further investigations.
In February this year, a father in Machakos county stabbed his nine-year old daughter to death before turning the same knife on himself. It is believed that the man decided to kill himself and the daughter after a quarrel with his wife at their residence in Mlolongo.
Such killings in the family setting are on the rise in the country with psychologists and counsellors attributing them to infidelity, financial strain, and depression.
