Crime in Kenya seems to have taken a different turn as even those hustling Kenyans trying to look for a job are now being targeted by conmen. But why would anyone want to extort money from people who are desperately looking for money?

As you continue with your job hunt, The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has today cautioned the public over conmen calling job seekers and claiming they could help them get employment at the agency.

In a statement by the KeNHA Director General Charles Njogu, the con artists call and contact unsuspecting people through social media and charge a fee. Among the telephone lines being used by the culprits are 020-7851978 and 07720508864 registered to Boniface Mwashi Mineso.

“We wish to clarify that KeNHA has a clear recruitment and procedure policy which includes publishing of vacancies in the mainstream media and on the authority’s website,” Njogu said.

The statement further said that KeNHA does not solicit any money during the recruitment process as was indicated in the fake calls to applicants.

Mr. Njogu advised the public to ignore the calls and any information on social media platforms regarding recruitment.

This is not the first time a government agency has issued a warning to the public over conmen in job placements. Last month the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was also a victim of such scams where people were being swindled cash with the promise of pupillage internships at the agency following a recent advertisement.

The ODPP revealed that the fraudsters called applicants using an Orange line and directed them to visit Agakhan hospital for a medical test which would allegedly cost Ksh. 3500.
