Dead! Matatu makes dramatic move along waiyaki way causes trouble

Commuters were on Tuesday morning shocked after an accident took place along waiyaki way after a bus is reported to have lost control and plunged unto a flooded section of the road after a night of rains.

One person is feared dead and several others were left trapped in the van that had overtuned and half way submerged with water.

The accident happened on December 4, 2018 and might have been caused by heavy rain that were experienced in many parts of Nairobi this morning.

Currently, rescue teams are on the ground striving hard to rescue the passengers trapped in the vehicle. All the motorists on that road are advised to be vigilant.

Drivers have been warned to be careful on the roads and avoid over speeding.The mornng incidence comes after Nairobi governor allowed matatus in the city center after what he termed as a pilot project.

The government has insisted that Public service vehicle (PSV) must be fitted with a speed governor that capped speed at 80 kilometres per hour, have seatbelts for all passengers, and have a defined passenger capacity to prevent overloading. They also required drivers to display their photo prominently in the matatu to curb “squad” driving, and made it mandatory for PSVs to have a yellow strip on its body.

Unlike thika road which has a speed limit of 110kph from the initial 10kph , Waiyaki way is among areas marked within the boundaries of Nairobi metropolis where speed limit is restricted to 50 Kph.

THE National Transport and Safety Authority has warned motorist heading to town centre against breaching the 50 kilometre rule.
