Why Mourinho called Ranieri

Recently appointed Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri revealed that Jose Mourinho was the first manager to call him and congratulate him after landing his new management job.

Ranieri was off to winning ways in his first game in charge at Fulham after a 3-1 win over Southampton last weekend. The former title-winning coach with Leicester City back in 2016 was appointed to salvage the sinking Fulham ship after a torrid start under Slavisa Jokanovic.

Interestingly Jose Mourinho replaced Ranieri after he was sacked by Chelsea back in 2004.

The Fulham boss revealed that Mourinho was the first to laud him after landing the Fulham job, “Josè Mourinho was the first one to call me. He is a great man, a great coach and a great character.”

In the same interview, Ranieri was confident of avoiding relegation, “It will be a tough way to the safety, but I am confident we will do it. We have a good team, we just have to get better at defending and improve our mentality. I have made myself clear with my players, I want a team that runs and fights”
