Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Paul Woolston.
Woolston, 20, left Newcastle in July after his contract was not renewed when it expired, and will join United’s Under-23 squad.
The talented stopper was snapped up after a successful trial period at the club and could make his debut against Middlesbrough Premier League 2 Division Two next week.
“Capped by England at Under-18 and Under-17 level, Woolston has had plenty of youth loan experience around the North East with the likes of Gateshead, Darlington, Blyth Spartans and South Shields,” Manchester United wrote on their official website.
the youngster has progressed through the ranks at St James’ Park, interspersed with sporadic loan-spells at local non-league sides.
Woolston has spent short-term spells at Gateshead, Darlington, Blyth Spartans and South Shields, while also featuring for Newcastle’s Reserve side.
The keeper kept three clean sheets in the Premier League 2 last season as well as making one appearance in the EFL Trophy.
He was released by Newcastle at the end of the 2017/18 season and Woolston was invited on trial by United and impressed the club.
