The academy was opened by Jomo on August 9th, 1975.

The President was at the academy to commission new officer cadets, noting that he was impressed by the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) improved training standards.

In his speech at the main ceremony, Uhuru had reiterated Kenya’s commitment to keeping troops in Somalia under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

He asserted that the KDF would remain in Somalia until lasting peace was found in the Horn of Africa.

“Our Defence Forces remain steadfast in their mission to bring lasting peace and development in the Horn of Africa region, with unwavering zeal and determination.

“Our troops will therefore continue being part of AMISOM, until such a time when this objective will be achieved,” he later tweeted.

The President further disclosed that the KDF’s involvement in AMISOM partly informed the training program at the military academy.
