Jay Z and Beyonce set to perform together at the 2018 Global Citizen Festival in Jozi

If you’ll be attending the 2018 Global Citizen Festival count yourself lucky because this year’s promised to be one for the books. In just four days, all eyes will be on South Africa as global leaders and international stars head to Johannesburg for the Mandela 100 Global Citizen festival.

The festival will take place this Sunday, December 2 at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. The Global Citizen Festival brings together top music artists with world leaders to make commitments toward health, gender equality education and other poverty issues.

Guests earn their tickets after taking a series of actions to effect change around the world. Leaders of global organisations and heads of state from Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana and Norway are expected to be part of the event.

This will be the first time that Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z will be performing in the country.

Organisers have promised an entertaining day from start to finish with surprise activities to be revealed closer to the day.

The two world stars will share the stage with fellow international acts like Ed Sheeran, Usher, Pharell Williams, Chris Martin, as well as African musicians Wizkid, D’Banj, Sho Madjozi, Cassper Nyovest, Tiwa Savage and DJ Black Coffee.

Beyonce fans, Beehive is getting in formation as they wait to see their favourite superstar Beyoncé at the Global Citizen Festival South Africa.

The Beehivers have been speculating for a few days on whether Beyoncé is already in the country and where she could be. It’s been rumoured that she and Jay-Z will do a one to two-hour set and have brought with them 300 members of their team.

It’s expected that fans from around South Africa and other African countries will make their way to Johannesburg over the course of the week.

The concert will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Nelson Mandela who died in 2013. Oprah Winfrey will also give a keynote address Mandela’s legacy, and other hosts will include Naomi Campbell and actors Forest Whitaker and Tyler Perry.

The Global Citizen organization has a stated goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030. With its Mandela 100 campaign, it hopes to bring in $1 billion.
