He’s Not Only Improved in English, Sonko is Now a Top Performing County Boss

He might have left many Kenyans in stitches on Tuesday with his fake American accent but Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is slowly but surely winning the hearts of Nairobians if the results of a survey conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) are anything to go by.

According to Tifa, Mike Sonko is the most improved Governor. Sonko posted an improvement from a D+ he scored in May this year to a C this month.

Those who took part in the poll cited better service delivery in the ratings for his performance.

His highest scores was recorded for street lighting with 68per cent, up from from 62per cent a few months ago.

Releasing the poll results on Wednesday, TIFA managing director Kweya Gerry announced that 77 percent of Nairobi residents were however against the governor operating from Machakos county.

Gerry further revealed that 67 percent of the participants said they were comfortable with Sonko operating without a deputy governor while 29percent were of the opposing view.

In the new score card, Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ posted a slight improvement from 56percent to 57percent, which saw him get a C+. This saw him become the top performing governor according to the polls.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho tied with a C grade.

TIFA also revealed that 77 percent of Mombasa residents who took part in the poll approved painting of the Central Business District (CBD).

However, 25 percent said the county government should settle painting costs.

According to the survey, sewerage system is still a challenge in both Nairobi and Kisumu counties.

In May, after TIFA released county score cards, Kenyans took to social media to criticise governor Sonko’s ‘dismal’  score.

However, Sonko dismissed the findings saying TIFA had earlier said he wouldn’t clinch the county’s top job.

“ In some poll that was done by Tifa, we were ranked number last. We accept that position, but don’t forget that the same Tifa conducted a poll and said I will not be governor and today I’m standing here as the governor of Nairobi,” an irked Sonko retorted.

The latest results by TIFA have also elicited various reactions among Kenyans with some showing support for the findings while others have termed them fake.
