“Free of charge!” Top City Lawyer to represent Ambira Boys Students

City Lawyer Nelson Havi took to Twitter to pledge his support for the eight KCSE candidates who are still in remand for insulting Education CSs Amina Mohamed (Education) and Fred Matiang’i (Interior).

The eight, who were arrested on November 23, 2018, are set to remain in remand till December 3, 2018. “We have offered to act for the eight Ambira High School boys. If you know the identities and contacts of their contacts of their parents or guardians, please notify us Asap,” Havi tweeted

Havi joins many other Kenyans who feel that the move to arrest the former students was uncalled for. “We cannot have a high handed executive decision to punish children and a more than willing court assisting the transgression,” he continued in his tweet.

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo also condemned the arrest arguing that the incident was a bad example of young people copying Kenyan adults known to engage in extreme impunity and graft.

This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a directive into the matter, promising to show “what the state does with cheats”.

“You can brag about cheating. We will show you what the state does with cheats,” Uhuru stated during his speech at the Kenya Scouts Association Patron Day.

Havi has in the past been a part of the legal teams representing major clients including former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
