There’s been a fresh twist in the future of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea who is now being hotly linked with a sensational switch to Juventus.

De Gea’s Man Utd contract expires at the end of the season, and the Spaniard has yet to pen a new deal at Old Trafford, fuelling rumours that he’s considering a blockbuster exit – although it’s important to note that United have the option of triggering a one-year extension meaning there’s absolutely no chance he’ll be leaving for nothing in the summer.

Italian publication Tuttosport reports that De Gea’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has even been in talks with the Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici.

The Italian giants lost the legendary Gigi Buffon to PSG back in the summer, with former Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczęsny subsequently stepping up to the plate.

However, Juventus could well consider De Gea as Buffon’s long-term replacement in between the sticks, although a purchase would require a world record fee for a keeper.

Superstar agent Mendes does, of course, also look after Cristiano Ronaldo who traded Spain for Italy in the aftermath of the World Cup.

De Gea has been at United for eight years, during which he’s only got his gloves on the one Premier League title.

He also has an FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League in the trophy cabinet, but the 28-year-old understandably has a desire to challenge for major trophies on a consistent basis, both domestically and in the Champions League.

While De Gea hasn’t been at his dazzling best this season – conceding a whopping 21 goals in only 12 Premier League games – a departure would be a devastating blow for the club, whose other star names could consequently stop and take stock of their own futures at the club.

The Red Devils have recently been linked with a move for Everton and England shot-stopper Jordan Pickford, along with Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak.
