After a tumultuous two months, in which he has been arrested twice and spend a total of 36 days in custody, Migori governor Okoth Obado is back to serve the electorate.

The first major decision he has made is to fire two senior government officials, one of them an ODM loyal member in the region.

The embattled governor who is serious charges, one of them the murder of his 26 year old girlfriend Sharon Otieno and their unborn son, announced that he had fired Trade Chief Executive Elizabeth Ochaye and Education Chief Officer Marwa Muniko.

Mrs Ochaye was sacked over claims of political disloyalty, having campaigned openly for Mr Ochillo Ayacko, of the Orange Democratic Movement, in the senator by-election.

Most of Governor Obado’s handlers campaigned for Mr Eddy Oketch of Federal Party of Kenya after the county boss openly differed with the orange party over the manner in which Mr Ayacko was picked.

This comes even as the ODM Party has moved to distance itself from the embattled governor, who is also facing charges of illegal possession of firearms.

The marriage between Obado and ODM seems to have gone beyond repair as Suna East MP, Junet Mohammed recently said that Sharon’s killers were planning to assassinate him.

Mrs Ochaye was replaced with Mrs Sheila Ghati, who was previously in the public service docket. Mr Elijah Odhiambo will act as the county executive for public service management while continuing to run his land and housing department.
