Paul Pogba gives Ed Woodward huge decision to make

Can this player make his decision already? Pogba is said to be keen to leave Manchester United and has even told his former Juventus team-mates he wants to return to Italy. Pogba swapped Turin for Manchester back in 2016 in a then world record move.

But he has struggled to replicate his best form each week for United despite helping France win the World Cup in the summer. He developed into one of the world’s top players at Juventus, over a four-year spell where he won four Serie A titles, after leaving United on a free transfer in 2012.

But his return to Old Trafford has been less fruitful with the Europa League and the EFL Cup the only silverware to show so far. This season has been turbulent with a Jose Mourinho bust-up seeing him lose the vice captaincy role at United.

He was also seen arguing with Mourinho in training following a social media post during a match he was in the stands for.

There was talk of a transfer in the summer when Barcelona were interested and his agent Mino Raiola also offered Pogba to Manchester City last season.

But now Juventus seem the most likely destination for the 25-year-old.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport report that Pogba wants to return and has told his former team-mates as much.

And that leaves Woodward with a big decision to make over the next two transfer windows.

Pogba, despite his inconsistencies, would attract a huge transfer fee – possibly a new world record.

So Woodward needs to balance the opportunity of potentially doubling his money on a player who has never really fit the manager’s philosophy, with selling the club’s big asset.

Pogba, for his troubles, is still one of United’s best players and without him they lack any decisive factors in the midfield.

They were abject without him against City in the last derby, a stark contrast to his inspired performance in the previous derby where he scored twice to inspire a comeback and delay City’s title party.

He is also the club’s most marketable player, something the club’s marketing department are well aware of.

There is also the feeling that Pogba could flourish with another manager – and with Mourinho’s record of leaving clubs at around this time it may be worth seeing how effective he could be in another system.

“I just came back home, it was like I didn’t really leave – I just went on holiday! It was a great feeling to come back home,” Pogba said last week.

“It was great to come back, to feel the air of Manchester. That has never changed.”
